History
At Christ the King R.C and CofE Primary School, the Christian faith underpins every aspect of the curriculum and is at the centre of our learning. Children are actively encouraged to ‘Build God’s Kingdom’.
Intent
At CTK, we are committed to developing curious, inspired, well-informed young historians who will work towards the History national expectations at the end of each key stage (EYFS, KS1 and KS2). Our curriculum has been carefully designed to support a good working understanding of chronology, providing our children with the opportunity to explore and gain a knowledgeable insight into Britain and that of the wider world – connecting what they know to understand how these periods of time, events and significant individuals have helped to shape the society, nation and world that we live in today. The children are given the opportunity to not just study the past, but to develop their own interpretations too, through meaningful, open ended enquiry questions – building evidence and knowledge as they go. As well as gaining the ability to ask perceptive questions, pupils will grow in their ability to communicate in a historical appropriate manner.
Our school ethos of ‘Living life to the full’ runs through the heart of our History curriculum and teaching and learning; inspiring both our staff and children to know and discover more about the past, together. To add, our History curriculum and teaching and learning serves to promote and further contribute to the inclusive nature of our school community and our commitment to grow in respect and responsibility’, through the study of diverse people, societies and events. We value and are proud of the history of our locality and we are passionate about our children growing in their understanding of Macclesfield and what opportunities they can grasp in order to live life to the full.
Together, we are on an exciting journey to build our historical knowledge, vocabulary, experiences and skills – enabling our pupils to truly develop their understanding and application of key historical concepts within the context of carefully designed enquiry-based questions. We aim to prepare the children for the next stage of their historical journey when they leave Christ the King Primary School, whilst planting the seeds for a lifelong love of History.
