Welcome to Summer 1! I hope you all had a lovely break.

See below for an insight into our learning this half-term.

Curriculum

In English, we will develop our writing skills through our class book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker. Our writing outcome will be to write an adventure story based on Journey using the language of Berlie Doherty, applying Gateway and Mastery keys taught throughout the unit. 

In Maths, our focus will be length and perimeter. 

In Geography, we will be working to answer the question - How have the Romans influenced the Geography of the UK?

In History, we will be working to answer the question - What did the Romans do for Britain?

In Science, we will be exploring rocks.  We will be working scientifically to compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties. To recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter. To describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock.  

In RE, our topic is 'To the Ends of the Earth' - We will explore the events that flowed from the Resurrection and Ascension in the coming of the Holy Spirit and the work of the apostles and early Church. We will also learn about the Catholic Church today as the apostolic Church and how its liturgy and structures flow from the early Church.

Important

Please make sure PE kits are in school all week.  PE sessions are on a Wednesday and swimming will be on a Friday afternoon. 

Reading-please hear your child read every day. Sign their reading record book so you can share their progress with me and ensure they receive reading Dojos. 

Times Table Rockstars -The Times Tables Rockstar app is a fun way for your child to learn and remember their times tables. Please support your child to learn their tables by practising for 5 minutes each day. 

Homework - please practise reading, spellings and Times Tables with your child.
